free computers?

does anyone know of a site that will give homeschooled children a free computer? we have heard that there are such sites on the internet that gives free computers to children in public schools. if there is such sites please let me know. my daughter is home schooling her child. thank you

1. I don't believe so. I am a homeschooler too!!
2. The programs you are thinking about are public virtual school programs. Everything needed as far as technology (computer, printer, and some or all internet provider reimbursement) and main curriculum (usually K12 which is very good and popular with virtual as well as traditional homeschool families) is provided. Not all states have this program. Ones that I know of are: Arkansas, Iowa, Ohio, many districts in Califronia, and Idaho. I think North Carolina was trying to get theirs up and running but it has hit legal snags. There may be more states. Go to www.K12.com to see the current list of public virtuals. As far as computers for traditional homeschoolers, I am not aware of a national program that is in place. Many homeschool groups can be of assistance if a family is without a computer or is in dire need of a better one. Most have at least one homeschool teen that builds computers and will donate time free if others will come together for the cost of parts. My son has done this as he was growing up in our local group. He is the local support group computer guru. LOL. He is in college now getting a degree in computers and he works in the college computer services department. He is also president of the Tech Club which gives free help to community non-profits. Perhaps if nothing is available for your daughter in her local area, the Tech Club may be able to help. Let me know if local sources go dry.
3. At my local public homeschool high school, they give computers to enrolled students because a lot of the classes are interactive and online. This is only if the family doesn't own one though. You might check local schools (if you have any that are specifically for homeschooling)
